About the Launch Event

Our free Culture in Practice launch event will be at Nick and Nora’s – Parramatta, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

We will introduce the purpose, structure and outcomes of the program and provide insight into how it supports culturally safe, legislatively aligned practice across the child and family sector.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of how Culture in Practice:

  • Responds directly to the needs of Practitioners working with Aboriginal Children, Families and Communities.

  • Supports Active Efforts and legislative responsibilities

  • Strengthens culturally informed decision-making

  • Embeds Aboriginal family voice, culture and self-determination into everyday work

Why Culture in Practice?

Family is Culture Recommendation 82 highlights the need for the child and family service sector to build stronger cultural capability and accountability when working with Aboriginal families and communities.

Culture in Practice has been developed to support this shift — moving beyond awareness and compliance, and into meaningful, culturally informed everyday practice.

The program has been co-designed with Aboriginal leaders, educators and community members, ensuring it reflects genuine cultural knowledge, lived experience and Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing.

Who is the event for?
The event is for individuals and organisations working across the child, family and community services sector, such as child protection practitioners and caseworkers, family preservation and early intervention services, NGOs and ACCOs.

Do I need to be a practitioner to attend?
No. While the program is designed to support frontline practice, the launch event is also relevant for leaders, executives, policy professionals and decision-makers responsible for workforce capability, service design and accountability.

What is the policy on photos and videos during the event?
AbSec may use the images and videos captured during the event for various proposes, including but not limited to advertising, social media, websites and other promotional materials. This material may be made available to the public and there will be no compensation, financial or otherwise, for the use of these images and video.
