Course description
Create change that keeps children safe, families strong, and culture at the heart of care. This nationally recognised qualification, CHC50321 Diploma of Child, Youth and Family Intervention, equips you with the skills and knowledge to support children, young people, and families through challenging times—always with compassion, respect, and cultural understanding.
At the AbSec Learning and Development Centre (LDC), we’ve designed this course to strengthen those working in child protection, casework, and family support roles, whether in government or community organisations. You’ll learn how to respond to complex needs, assess risk, develop effective care plans, and advocate for better outcomes—guided by trauma-informed and culturally grounded practice.
This course is for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal professionals who want to make a meaningful difference and build their capacity to work alongside Aboriginal children, families, and communities. It’s not just about compliance—it’s about care, connection, and creating lasting change.
Who can attend?
We are offering this course for people currently employed in the community sector in a variety of roles including caseworkers, case managers and support workers, who as part of their role need this qualification or are interested in expanding and/or formalising their child protection and family support work skills and knowledge.
All applicants must undertake a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment as part of the enrolment process to ensure appropriate assistance is provided throughout the course. Part of the course may also consist of on-the-job learning at your workplace.
