This qualification reflects the role of individuals undertaking child protection and family support work. This may be in a residential or non-residential facility, and for a government or not-for-profit community organisation. You will learn how to improve their living circumstances and emotional wellbeing; develop and implement child welfare investigations, risk assessments, and case management strategies; and how to respond to critical situations.
The course is designed for Aboriginal or non-Aboriginal individuals already working with at-risk children, young people and their families, who wish to formalise and build upon their skills. AbSec Learning and Development Centre has tailored the course to apply particularly to serving Aboriginal families and communities.
Completion of this diploma provides up to one year’s credit into relevant degree courses offered by our partner, Southern Cross University.
We are offering this course for people currently employed in the community sector, either as team members or managers, and interested in expanding their leadership and management skills. Part of the course will consist of on-the-job learning at your workplace.

Self-paced (8 months).
We have designed this course as an online-onsite blended delivery program, providing flexibility for those students already working in a child protection and family support work environment.
Much of your study will be completed online over an 8-month period, supplemented by 4 x 5-day face-to-face workshops (3 days in a classroom, 2 days in a workplace). Workshops will be scheduled at locations across NSW or at AbSec offices in Sydney.
In addition to online learning modules, students are also required to spend at least 15 hours per week between blocks undertaking research, reading and assessment activities.
$1500 for full qualification
RPL/CT $750 + $100 per unit not covered by RPL application
Payment options: (a) Pay in full before the course commences, by credit card or direct credit, or (b) pay by the month with a $350 initial payment (which includes a $100 administration fee and the first two months’ tuition fees) followed by $115 per month for 10 months for Diploma courses.
Note: All self-funding students who successfully complete this course and are awarded a Diploma Qualification will be eligible to receive a $500 completion bonus.
In cases where a student’s employer has opted to cover the cost of tuition fees for this course, completion bonuses will still apply however payments will be made directly to employer unless otherwise directed by employer.

Recognition of Prior Learning is available for either individual units of competence or the entire qualification.
