This qualification reflects the role of individuals undertaking child protection and family support work. This may be in a residential or non-residential facility, and for a government or not-for-profit community organisation. You will learn how to improve their living circumstances and emotional wellbeing; develop and implement child welfare investigations, risk assessments, and case management strategies; and how to respond to critical situations.
The course is designed for Aboriginal or non-Aboriginal individuals already working with at-risk children, young people and their families, who wish to formalise and build upon their skills. AbSec Learning and Development Centre has tailored the course to apply particularly to serving Aboriginal families and communities.
Completion of this diploma provides up to one year’s credit into relevant degree courses offered by our partner, Southern Cross University.
We are offering this course for people currently employed in the community sector in variety of roles including Caseworkers, Case Managers & Support workers, who as part of their role need this qualification or are interested in expanding and/or formalising their child protection and family support work skills and knowledge.
Part of the course may consist of on-the-job learning at your workplace.

RPL/CT $1000 + $95 per unit not covered by RPL application
This course has two modes of delivery, fully online or blended delivery (online with face to face workshops), providing flexibility for those students who are balancing work with study.
For the blended program much of your study will be completed online over a 8 to 12-month period, supplemented by a number of face-to-face workshops. Workshops will be scheduled at locations across NSW and/or at AbSec offices in Sydney. Workshop schedule will be developed in consultation with students and employer.
Students are encouraged to complete online activities prior to any scheduled workshops.
Recognition of Prior Learning is available for either individual units of competence or the entire qualification.
