This qualification will equip you to provide support to people living with various types of disability. You will learn to effectively communicate with people with disability, as well as developing and implementing support plans for people to build self-reliance and community participation.
This course is designed for Aboriginal or non-Aboriginal people wishing to explore career opportunities in disability specialist roles within the community service sector. AbSec Learning and Development Centre has tailored the course to apply particularly to serving Aboriginal families and communities.
Completion of this certificate provides up to six months’ credit into relevant degree courses offered by our partner, Southern Cross University.
We are offering this course for people currently employed as Disability Support workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who as part of their role need this qualification or are interested in expanding and/or formalising their disability support work skills and knowledge.
Students must have completed at least 120 hours of direct support work to achieve this qualification.

RPL/CT $750 + $100 per unit not covered by RPL application
This course has two modes of delivery, fully online or blended delivery (online with face to face workshops), providing flexibility for those students who are balancing work with study.
For the blended program much of your study will be completed online over a 6 to 12-month period, supplemented by a number of face-to-face workshops. Workshops will be scheduled at locations across NSW and/or at AbSec offices in Sydney. Workshop schedule will be developed in consultation with students and employer.
Students are encouraged to complete online activities prior to any scheduled workshops.
Recognition of Prior Learning is available for either individual units of competence or the entire qualification.
